Best Heat Protectant for Natural Hair: 6 Favorite Heat Protectants

Share this post or pin it for later!

Now that we’re getting back to going to events and traveling again (yay) I’m styling my hair way more often and whenever I style my hair, you know I’m going to be using a heat protectant! After trying out a few different heat protectants, I’m going to be sharing the best heat protectant for natural hair with you all. 🤩

I’ve always been a believer in protecting and maintaining healthy hair, so I never skip the step of applying a heat protectant. I love having smooth, silky, and glossy hair—my secret is a heat protectant and hair oil.

Trust me, you don’t want to have dry and brittle hair from heat damage when it can easily be avoided with some heat protectant. If you’re not using heat protectant already, I challenge you to start incorporating it before you start styling.

Let’s get into my picks for the best heat protectants for natural hair!

6 Best Heat Protectants for Natural Hair

1. Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Hair Oil

I had to start off with my current favorite heat protectant, the Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Hair Oil. I’m obsessed with the way this oil smells and how easy it is to apply throughout my hair.

All you need are a few drops (a little goes a long way) and you can apply it to damp or dry hair before styling. I was a little worried about my hair looking greasy, but it seamlessly gives your hair a natural shine.

The oil is a weightless thermal protectant that repairs and protects your hair up to 450°F. It works on all hair types and prevents any flyaways.

I love that it’s made with Vitis Vinifera (Grape) seed oil because that means it’s loaded with anti-aging properties, vitamins, and essential fatty acids.

2. Briogeo Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant Cream

If oil-based heat protectants aren’t your thing, you’re probably going to love this Briogeo Heat Protectant Cream. It has luscious ingredients like rosehip, coconut, and argan oil to help nourish the hair after high heat.

This cream protects hair up to 450°F when using any heat styling tools. I like that this product is made to be free of any silicones and gluten.

The heat protectant also helps target any hair concerns like dryness and frizz. All you need is 2 quarter-sized amounts of product and damp hair to make this stuff work like magic.

3. Dae Cactus Flower Leave-In Conditioner

I love Dae hair products and this Cactus Flower Leave-In Conditioner is another one of my cream-based favs. Not only is this a restorative conditioner, but this product also doubles up as a heat protectant up to 450°F.

This stuff works on all hair types and smells absolutely divine. It helps with targeting dryness and color fading from treated hair.

I recommend using this stuff before you blow-dry or flat iron your hair to make it look effortlessly voluminous. The cactus flower and prickly pear ingredients work together to hydrate and nourish the hair.

4. Bumble and Bumble Heat Shield Thermal Protection Mist

If you’re into beauty and hair care, you’ve probably heard of Bumble and Bumble products. This Heat Shield Thermal Protection Mist is one of my fav heat protectant sprays. 😍

I love that it repairs any damage, prevents breakage, reduces frizz, and improves elasticity—it’s all thanks to their Honey Protective Complex. It also has added UV filters to help protect against any drying effects from the sun.

It protects your hair up to 450°F and adds a nice subtle polish to your look. It also works on all hair types and is so easy to apply.

5. Kenra Platinum Blow-Dry Spray

The Kenra Platinum Blow-Dry Spray is another popular and lightweight thermal shield heat protectant. It dramatically decreases blow-drying time and provides intense heat protection from damage and breakage.

It also detangles the hair leaving it soft and smooth. Say goodbye to frizz and humidity because this spray really helps target those hair concerns.

This spray really works best with damp hair and only protects hair up to 428°F. If you hate blow drying your hair, I really can’t recommend this spray enough.

6. Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray

Of course, I had to include the classic Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray. This spray is literally iconic, I remember everyone was using this back in the day.

It’s made with a weightless formula that doesn’t add any build-up to your hair. I love that it helps to seal the cuticle and works to prevent any future damage.

With added vitamins and proteins, your hair will be feeling extra soft and nourished. The spray works on all hair types and has a light scent to it.

Those were all my favorite heat protectants for styling and maintaining your hair. If you’re looking for some more affordable options, I recommend trying Mielle Organics Mongongo Oil Thermal Protectant Spray, Silk Elements Megasilk Olive Heat Protection Spray, or the Design Essentials Natural Silk Essentials Heat Protectant.

If you decide to try any of these heat protects, be sure to tag me on Insta stories @wtfab. I love seeing how you all incorporate my recs. 💖
