If you have beautiful Asian hair that you want to keep healthy and nourished, you definitely want to be using Asian hair dye products to color it.
Bleaching and dying can be VERY damaging, and a lot of hair products don’t account for how harsh the chemicals can be.
The great thing about Asian hair dye is that these brands have perfected formulas with natural ingredients.
Some of my favorite Asian beauty brands offer a wide range of specific hair colors as well. So if you prefer to stick to more natural tones like me, there are plenty of dyes to choose from.
Instead of just “brown” or “blonde,” my fav products offer dyes with specific undertones to match different skin tones.
While most of my favorites are from Asian brands, I also wanted to highlight products that work well on Asian hair.
Asian hair has more cuticle layers than Caucasian hair, which is why it needs more effort to lift—the pigmentation is also darker, which adds even more time to the dyeing process.
That doesn’t mean Asian hair dye can only be used on Asian hair! If you want to try new hair colors or naturally cover up gray hairs, here are my top product recommendations.

9 Best Asian Hair Dye
1. Madison Reed Light Smoky Brown
The Madison Reed hair dye kit has everything you need, so it’s super beginner friendly and a great place to start dyeing your hair at home.
This kit comes with hair dye, a color activator, a cap, gloves, and of course, instructions on how to use everything properly.
Madison Reed’s formula is cruelty, PPD, and ammonia-free, with no parabens or other ingredients that are known to cause any irritation—the brand is very transparent about having “ingredients with integrity.”
They also have a page on their website that goes into more detail about what is and isn’t in their formulas.
The hair dye has full coverage, and the conditioner within the kit leaves your hair feeling soft and shiny. If you have Asian hair and are skeptical of diving straight into box dyes, try this one first!
2. Dariya Salon De Pro Hair Color Cream
If you’re more experienced with dyeing your hair and are confident in using box dyes, Dariya Salon De Pro Hair Color Cream is a great, mess-free option.
Dariya’s hair dye has a creamy, lotion-like texture that counters the bad reputation of most box dyes.
To achieve the potent hair dye formula, Dariya uses silk polymer proteins that create a famously smooth application process.
To moisturize your hair, this Color Cream uses royal jelly extract as well as olive oil and other vegetable proteins to protect your hair while giving it a natural shine.
3. Kao Liese Creamy Bubble Color
Kao Liese uses foam so the Creamy Bubble Color can penetrate deeply into the roots of your hair—perfect if you hate the long, drawn-out hair dye process.
The box comes with a Rinse-Off Treatment Pack that you can use post-dye to repair hair cuticle layers.
Although this Asian hair dye contains hydrolyzed silk and lanolin acid that protects your hair, it’s also nice to have a backup product.
The Bubble Color is mixed with gray and blue hues to create a layered look, mimicking a salon-quality finish.
This Creamy Color is so impressive that it’s been rated Japan’s number one Hair Fashion Color and the number one Hair Color in Singapore.

4. Mise en Scene Hello Bubble Foam Color
Mine en Scene has been Korea’s top hair dye pick for eight consecutive years from 2014-2021, so you KNOW they’ve mastered their products.
The Hello Bubble Foam Color comes as a thick, creamy foam with its signature ammonia, PEG, and PPD-free formula—and, of course, no animal cruelty.
Instead, Mise en Scene uses natural ingredients found in green tea, camellia, and pomegranates to level up the foam hair dye’s gentle strength.
My favorite aspect of Mine en Scene is that each dye product is paired with skin tone recommendations which ensures that you don’t look washed out!
5. Revlon Total Permanent Hair Color
Revlon Total Permanent Hair Color provides vibrant color without using ammonia, parabens, sulfates, silicones, mineral oil, phthalates, or gluten, while still achieving natural-looking results.
This permanent dye ensures six weeks of richly colored, soft hair, and none of the frizz or breakage that typically comes along with boxed hair dye.
To provide extra nourishment, Revlon includes hemp seed oil and camellia oil in the dye’s formula, making it the perfect Asian hair dye pick.
If you’re looking for an at-home color to help cover up gray hairs, this dye is it! Revlon Total Permanent Hair Color guarantees 100% gray coverage, even if you have stubborn hair.
6. Dariya Palty Hair Coloring Milk
Dariya also has another series of hair dyes that’s extremely popular, and for good reason. The Palty Hair Coloring Milk is one of their bestsellers, and the kits come with gloves, hair treatment serum, and hair lotion.
The Coloring Milk is odorless, doesn’t drip, and won’t irritate your skin or nostrils.
This Hair Coloring Milk uses camellia and rosehip oils for shine, royal jelly, pearl, and hawthorn extracts for hydration, and seaweed extract for protection.
Dariya was also the first brand to create a one-push bottle that dispenses two hair treatment agents at the same time in 2014, which goes to show how dedicated they are to promoting innovative hair care.

7. Rishiri Kombu Hair Color Treatment Dark Brown
This Hair Color Treatment was voted Japan’s number one “Best Hair Color and Manicure Product” for two consecutive years in 2011-2012—it HAS to be good.
What I love most about this treatment is that it gradually, gently dyes your hair—it’s meant to be used every day after shampooing, and it dyes your hair bit by bit.
Because it’s gentle and safe for daily use, the Hair Color Treatment is especially good for people with sensitive scalps, skin, or allergies to chemical hair dyes.
The Rishiri treatment contains iodine and different minerals that promote protein generation in your hair and your scalp.
Rishiri uses natural extracts from herbs, and their signature Rishiri Sea Kelp Extract is harvested from the Northern Islands of Hokkaido.
8. Daeng Gi Meo Ri Hair Color
Like most of the other products on this Asian hair dye roundup, Daeng Gi Meo Ri Hair Color is PPD and ammonia free.
Instead, the brand uses directly-decocted oriental herbal extracts, which are represented beautifully in the traditional art style that decorates the product packaging.
Key ingredients in this hair color include Korean ginseng, Cnidium officinale, and Artemisia, as well as keratin to counter potential damage and PCA to moisturize your hair.
Since the hair color kits come with a hair dye brush, a vinyl glove, and a gown, I also love the mini salon experience you get—it’s a nice reminder to treat yourself!
9. Somang Clinic Black Hair
Since all the other products on this list were lighter shades of brown, let’s finish off with my favorite black hair dye product from Somang Clinic.
Somang Clinic Hair Color uses 1,200mg of keratin to keep your hair strong and healthy, as well as ceramides to capture moisture, glycyrrhiza extract for a healthy scalp, and camellia oil for shine.
Like most Asian hair dye products, Somang Clinic provides a comb, brush, gloves, and cape.
Asian hair dye is key if you want home dyeing products that won’t damage your hair.
