Porto is a UNESCO world heritage site best known for its cultural attractions and port wine production. It’s referred to as Portugal’s “second city,” but there’s nothing second-rate about it.
Overflowing with history and culture and just the right mix of hip and modern, Porto is one of those destinations where staying at private vacation rentals is the best way to get the most authentic experience.

This recently renovated apartment gets rave reviews for its super-friendly host, location, and view. You’ll be in the middle of the old town Porto action here with several bars and restaurants just a short walk away and only a 10-minute walk to reach the riverfront.
Inside, you have everything you need with all its modern amenities, including central air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a dishwasher. You’ll enjoy a beautiful view from the private balcony overlooking Porto’s Clérigos Tower and nearby Aliados square.

5. Stylish 1-Bedroom Apartment in the City Center
This chic apartment is awesome! I just love the exposed stoned walls and beam ceiling that gives it that cool, rustic/contemporary feel.
It’s perfect for a group of over one to two people because it has one bedroom with a double bed and a double sofa bed in the living room. There’s also one full-size bathroom and another small bathroom which is a nice perk for multiple guests.
The apartment is located just around the block from São Bento station, so it’s close to everything. You’ll easily be able to walk to all the major sights downtown and explore the center’s many shops and restaurants.

6. Studio with Gorgeous River-View Terrace
Oh, the view! The oversized private terrace with panoramic views of the Douro river and bridge will make every minute spent here feel special. You’ll find cushioned outdoor furniture where you can just sit, relax, and take it all in. Awesome, right?
The indoor studio space is modern and spacious with all the necessary amenities. There’s a double bed and a double pull-out sofa that make the space work for up to four guests.
This studio was converted from a section of an old family house built at the end of the 18th century. The street itself is in an old part of the city along a charming path that’s part of a network of preserved historic paths.
It’s a steep walk into the downtown Porto district but totally doable. If that feels like a bit too much, you can also take the tram or short taxi or Uber ride into town. It’s a great option if you want to be close but away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

7. 19th-Century Home in the Center of Porto
If you need (or just want) more space, this beautiful two-bedroom home is the way to go. It’s a totally renovated house that was built in the 19th century and has it all, including an ideal central location and amazing river and city views.
It’s located in the zone of the famous ‘Barredo’ stairs which is a charming preserved old path that was, for centuries, one of the few routes that connected the Cathedral and the riverside.
This house itself has three floors. You’ll find a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom on the first floor.
On the second floor, there’s a large living room with a sofa bed, TV, and romantic river view. Meanwhile, you’ll find the master bedroom with a private bathroom, and the second bedroom with a small bathroom on the third floor — also with a river view.
