The property is a luxury resort designed with spacious residences instead of standard hotel rooms, which makes it perfect for families, couples, or groups traveling together.
The service and atmosphere are impeccable. Every staff member we encountered was warm and genuine. The vibe here is relaxed and welcoming—you’re definitely in a luxury resort, but it still feels like Maui magic rather than stuffy or overly polished. Whether you’re on a honeymoon, family trip, or celebrating something special, Montage has a way of making you feel completely at home in paradise.
The Residences
Forget cramped hotel rooms—at Montage Kapalua Bay, you’re checking into a private villa-style residence. Our suite had a full gourmet kitchen, spacious living room, laundry, and a huge lanai with ocean views. The décor blends contemporary elegance with Hawaiian touches like natural woods, light coastal tones, and lots of indoor-outdoor flow.
This setup is amazing, especially for families. You can cook meals (or order room service in), have space for little ones to run around, and enjoy the comforts of home with the perks of a resort. For couples, it feels ultra-private and romantic with all the luxury touches you could dream of.
The staff will even take care of the dishes for you during turndown service—such a luxury not to have to do dishes!
Dining Experiences
One of the highlights of staying at Montage is the dining scene. Cane & Canoe is the resort’s signature restaurant and serves elevated Hawaiian cuisine in a gorgeous open-air setting. We had breakfast here every morning and it was absolutely divine—do not miss the Kumu Farms papaya, the wagyu locomoco, or the pancakes.
For dinner, expect fresh fish, locally sourced ingredients, and creative cocktails. The special one night was Onaga (red snapper), and tbh, I was absolutely floored. I haven’t seen Onaga on the menu in like a decade, and it was soo delicious. Seriously, such a treat!
For more casual dining, the Hana Hou Bar & poolside service are perfect. The poke bowls and tropical cocktails were our go-to between swims.
And of course, in-room dining is next-level when you have a full kitchen and large dining space—ordering in feels like hosting your own private dinner party with Maui views.
Another must-do is the Champagne Hale at Cliff House, the Montage’s exclusive Veuve Clicquot champagne bar. Perched on the cliffs overlooking Kapalua Bay, it’s the ultimate spot to watch the sunset while sipping bubbly and enjoying light bites. The vibe is upscale yet relaxed, with breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean and Moloka‘i in the distance. It’s the kind of experience that makes you stop, soak it all in, and feel completely spoiled in paradise.

Pools & Resort Amenities
The lagoon-style pools at Montage Kapalua Bay are straight out of a dream. With multiple levels, waterfalls, and tucked-away spots, you’ll always find a little corner to relax.
Cabanas are available if you want to splurge for extra comfort and relaxation. Families will love that most of the pool areas are kid-friendly, while couples can retreat to the quieter adults-only upper pool.
The poolside service was also amazing—we never went long without a cocktail or snack in hand. Other amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, daily wellness classes, and Paintbox, Montage’s signature kids’ program, which offers fun activities to keep little ones entertained while parents enjoy some downtime.
Spa Montage Kapalua Bay
A trip to Montage wouldn’t be complete without indulging at the award-winning Spa Montage. The spa is tucked into a lush, serene part of the resort, with open-air treatment rooms and views that make you instantly feel relaxed.
The menu includes signature Hawaiian-inspired treatments like lomilomi massages, body wraps with tropical botanicals, and deeply restorative facials. I booked a traditional lomilomi massage, and it was one of the best massages I’ve ever had!
Beyond treatments, the spa facilities are incredible: outdoor relaxation areas, whirlpools, a gorgeous pool, steam rooms, and quiet corners where you can simply soak in the Maui sunshine. Even if you’re not usually a “spa person,” Spa Montage is a must-do.
Beach & Outdoor Activities
Just a short stroll down the hill from the resort sits Kapalua Bay Beach, consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The water is calm, clear, and perfect for snorkeling—I spotted a bunch of turtles swimming.
As Montage guests, you get complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas set up for you, which is such a lovely perk. You can also rent snorkel gear, kayaks, and paddle boards from the beach hut here.
Montage also offers a variety of cultural activities like hula lessons, lei-making, and ukulele workshops. For adventure seekers, there are hiking trails nearby, plus two championship golf courses in Kapalua. Whether you want to relax on the sand, paddleboard across the bay, or immerse yourself in Hawaiian traditions, you don’t have to look hard to find something to do.
