If you’ve been looking to dive into the world of blogging or content creation, the first step is investing in a good camera. After years of experience in taking travel photos, I’m sharing my picks for the best camera for blogging.
You can totally get away with using your iPhone as your primary camera, but when you’re shooting pictures in the RAW on a DSLR camera, you’ll get so many more editing capabilities.
If you’re looking into shooting video content on top of taking high-quality photos, you can look into a camera that can do both.
I’ve got you totally covered today with all the best beginner-friendly cameras to start shooting your dream content!
6 Best Cameras for Blogging
1. Nikon D3500 DSLR
The Nikon 3500 is hands down one of the best beginner DLSR travel blogging cameras. If you’re looking to experiment more with lighting and image quality, for less than $1,000, you’re going to love this camera option.
It has an amazing battery life and shoots at 24.2 megapixels—the 5 frames per second burst mode lets you get the exact shot you’re after. It also has a wide ISO range giving it a stronger low light performance.
This is a slightly more compact DSLR camera, so it will be easier to carry around while traveling.
The only downside to this camera is that there is no touch screen and it doesn’t shoot in 4k video quality—it only goes up to 1080p. So if you’re looking for a camera that can do both this one probably isn’t for you.
This is overall a really great starter camera that will help you learn all the photography essentials. I highly recommend getting it in 2 lens kit to give you more options when shooting content and for a better price—lenses can get pricey!
2. Canon Powershot G7x Mark iii
If you’re not as interested in shooting photos manually and have more of an interest in video content, the Canon G7x Mark iii is the perfect video blogging camera—this is definitely a more popular vlogging camera.
This compact point and shoot camera shoots 20.1 megapixels and can film in 4k. It has a multi-angle touch screen that makes it easy to view yourself while shooting any content.
You have the option to use the built-in autofocus or manual focus features to adjust the lighting and style the way you want it. It has optical body image stabilization to reduce any image blur caused by a shaky hand.
The ISO goes up to 25,600 that allowing a better image quality in low-light conditions. There’s also a built-in flash for any photos in low lighting or at night.
This camera is definitely on the pricier side for not being a DSLR camera, but it can really do so much by providing high-quality images and videos.
3. Canon EOS M50 Mark ii
The Canon EOS M50 Mark ii is an all-around great mirrorless camera that can do both shooting high-quality images and videos. This camera can perform like a DSLR with all the same manual features to shoot pictures with more creative freedom.
It shoots 24.1-megapixel images and you can also record videos up to 4k. It has a convenient flip-out screen to make sure you’re getting everything you want on the screen.
This camera is the perfect option for someone who wants to learn more about photography and videography since you can easily toggle between using auto and manual features.
The autofocus on this camera is amazing with eye-tracking capabilities. It also has a touch screen to look through the viewfinder.
I also love that you can switch out the lenses on this camera like a DSLR while reaming compact and easy to travel with.
4. Sony A6400
The Sony A6400 is one of the best mirrorless cameras out there. It’s a super-compact camera that functions similarly to a DSLR camera.
One of the members of our travel group Babes That Wander has this camera, and I’m constantly impressed with the photos she takes with it.
This is another popular vlogging-style camera that has a 180-degree flip screen and can record up to 4k in video quality.
You can essentially do everything the Canon G7x Mark iii can do but better and with interchangeable lenses. It also shoots at 24.2 megapixels with really fast autofocus and performs well under low light conditions.
It has 11 frames per second with raw, crisp, clear natural colors and multiple movie functions that can make time-lapse movies or slow/quick motion videos without any post-processing.
The price point for this one is $1400 to $1600—even if it’s used like new or renewed like this one on Amazon. Overall, this camera is a really great option with all bells and whistles like a DSLR camera, but with way smaller and higher quality megapixels.
5. Canon EOS 90D
The Canon EOS 90D is definitely a camera option for all my bloggers out there looking to really step up their photography skills. The EOS 90D is a little more advanced than all the other options I’ve recommended and is on the higher price point end.
For the body alone, it can cost up to $1200 and you still need to factor in lens costs. But the investment is definitely worth it if you’re looking to shoot really professional-style photos.
It shoots at a high image quality of 32.5 megapixels with high-speed continuous shooting of up to 10 fps with no time Lag during shooting. It also shoots videos up to 4k UHD, so it’s very versatile.
It also has an autofocus system that allows fast and precise focus even in unpredictable settings. You can shoot fast-moving subjects with minimal glare or lag time—amazing right?
6. Panasonic Lumix Fz80
Last up is the Panasonic Lumix Fz80, a point-and-shoot camera that can shoot up to 18.1 megapixels. It also can record videos up to 4k in quality.
I love this camera because it makes a great beginner option and is set at a more affordable price. It performs well in low-light situations and is super easy to control.
I also really love the convenience of the charging on this camera because all it takes is a USB. Travel on the go with this camera and its compact size while shooting stunning imagery.
