While I love living in San Francisco and am all about that city life, I also really appreciate the city’s proximity to my hometown, a small town near Sacramento, and how easy it is to drive home and be able to spend the weekend with my family. To make things even more convenient, Omied and I met in high school, so my in-laws live just 15 minutes away from my parents. Our families get along really well and we always have fun when we get together, so for Father’s Day weekend we hosted a BBQ at my parents’ house up in the foothills of Sacramento with family and friends.
My dad has always been a wine lover, and my family is a bunch of foodies, so a family get together means it’s guaranteed that there will be plenty of good food and wine. For this BBQ, I teamed up with Line 39 Wine to do some delicious pairings with their Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. We served up tri-tip for our main dish, which paired perfectly with the Line 39 wine Cabernet Sauvignon and its rich fruit flavors of currant, blackberry and ripe plum with hints of dark chocolate. This wine finishes with subtle, smooth tannins that aren’t overpowering, which makes it a great pairing for grilled meats.
My mom was in charge of the side dishes, and her side dishes are always anything but basic. She whipped up three delicious salads, including a corn salad, watermelon and mint fruit salad, and a potato salad. If that doesn’t scream summer, I don’t know what does. These salads went perfectly with the Line 39 Sauvignon Blanc, which has aromas of grapefruit and lemon and a lovely crisp, clean flavor. This wine also would have been great with seafood or chicken!
It was pretty funny to see all the men at the BBQ oohing and ahhing over my new Weber® 1200 portable grill. And I love that the top comes in a bunch of different fun, bright colors. We can’t wait to pull this out again for grilling at the park for 4th of July!
