One positive thing that has come out of me traveling less (aka not at all) and staying home more this year is that I have had time to really get my skincare game on point! I love trying different products and finding holy grail ones to share with you guys, but it definitely takes me a lot longer to test products when I’m on my usual travel schedule. That’s because my skin can flare up due to long flights and different climates, and I also try not to travel with full-sized products because of TSA restrictions and how heavy they make my checked bag (which is usually already dangerously close to or over the weight limit when I go on long trips).
So all of that to say, I’ve been enjoying trying out a few new skincare products over the last six months and I’ve found some real winners, including the Rodan + Fields REDEFINE Intensive Renewing Serum, which I’ll be sharing all the deets on today!
If you’ve been hearing how retinol is a must-have ingredient in your skincare routine but have been nervous about trying it due to how irritating it can be for your skin, Rodan + Fields’ Intensive Renewing Serum should be on your skincare shopping list. It’s a face serum formulated with proprietary Retinal-MD Technology, a form of Vitamin A that’s more potent than Retinol but gentle enough for daily use.
Real quick before we get more into the specifics on the Rodan + Fields Intensive Renewing Serum, I wanted to share a quick explanation on the different terms like retinoid, retinol, Tretinoin, etc. because it can get really confusing!
Retinoids vs. Retinol vs. Retin-A
Retinoids are vitamin A derivatives. Retinoids are a type of topical skincare ingredient (can be a cream, gel, serum, etc.) used for several skincare concerns like acne, anti-aging, and uneven skin tone.
Retinol is vitamin A, and it is a type of retinoid. Retinols are cosmetic skincare products that you do not need a prescription for.
Retin-A is a brand-name drug that consists of Tretinoin, a type of retinoid, but you can only get it with a prescription. Retin-A is what I have used in the past when I tried a prescription-strength retinoid.
Ok, I hope that was a helpful breakdown! So let’s get into the Rodan + Fields REDEFINE Intensive Renewing Serum.
Overview of REDEFINE Intensive Renewing Serum
I love a good retinoid product, but I’ve definitely experienced super dry and flaky skin from prescription-strength retinoid (when I used Retin-A) and it wasn’t cute, so I was really excited to try out the Intensive Renewing Serum.
When you open up the jar, you’ll see that the serum comes in the prettiest little blue capsules, which are biodegradable. The capsules help protect the serum’s formula inside from light and oxygen, helping maintain its potency. Which is amazing because that means each application will have maximum efficacy each night that you use it.
The consistency is thick and smooth, and scent-free. Perfect for what I look for in a nighttime serum, as I really dislike skincare products with strong scents and so does Omied. Sometimes I’ll try a new product and if it smells too strong he’ll tell me I smell weird and joke that I can’t come to bed. 😂
This serum is meant for nighttime use (you should be using any retinoid product at night since it can make your skin more sensitive to the sun) and you just twist off the tail to open the capsule. You then smooth the serum over your face and neck, avoiding the delicate eye area. And you’re good to go! As with any retinoid product, you’ll want to ensure you are using a good SPF during the day, even if you’re staying indoors as UV rays penetrate windows. Btw, even if you’re not using a retinoid, you should still be wearing your SPF indoors every day!
Benefits of REDEFINE Intensive Renewing Serum
So, what are the benefits of the Redefine Intensive Renewing Serum? It helps your skin’s natural renewing process to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Say hi to younger looking skin! I’ve been using the serum nightly over the last month and I can definitely say that I am seeing a noticeable difference. My skin looks firmer and any fine lines I did have are less visible.
Ok, so fun fact, a baby’s skin turns over every two weeks. There’s a reason we say people with great skin have baby-soft skin! But starting in our 20’s, skin cell turnover starts to slow. By your 40’s and beyond that same process takes up to six weeks, causing dull skin, wrinkles, and loss of firmness. So that’s where the Vitamin A comes in and helps support that critical cell renewal process.
Final Thoughts
My skin did not experience any irritation from this retinoid product, even though it’s a powerful and effective serum. Especially right now, I think we are all avoiding going into doctor/derm offices unless absolutely necessary.
You can buy a jar of the Redefine Intensive Renewing Serum on the Rodan + Fields website here. One jar has 60 capsules in it, so using one nightly will last you 60 days, which is more than enough time to see noticeable results.
If you do try out the Redefine Intensive Renewing Serum, shoot me a DM or an email and let me know your experience! I think you’ll love it!
