FinanceBuzz compared menu prices at 12 fast-food chains over the past decade to study the effects of inflation. The analysis revealed that the cost of eating at Chipotle has increased by an average of 75% since 2014.

Burritos aren’t the only barbacoa-based meals at Chipotle that have risen in price. Since 2014, barbacoa tacos have become nearly 90% more expensive. They were $6.65 a decade ago but now cost $12.45.

The steak salad is another Chipotle item whose price has jumped 87% in the past decade. This menu option was a reasonable $6.65 in 2014. However, you’ll now pay $12.45 for the same meal.

Large Soda

Even Chipotle’s drink offerings have suffered from inflation. Ten years ago, a large-sized soda cost under $2. In 2024, you’ll have to shell out $3.40 to quench your thirst with the same amount of beverage.

Chicken Burrito Bowl

Chicken burrito bowls used to be a wallet-friendly Chipotle option. In 2014, this menu item was just $6.25. You’ll be disappointed to hear this familiar favorite is now $10.70.

Another chicken item that has increased in price is the tacos. This chicken-based meal has become 71% more expensive, just like the burrito bowl. An order of chicken tacos was $6.25 in 2014 but now costs $10.70.

The price increase on the carnitas burrito has saddened many Chipotle fans. A decade ago, the dish was available for $6.65. In 2024, it is now a pricey $11.35.

Side of Guac

A side of guacamole costs 64% more today than ten years ago. In 2014, you could add a small serving of guac to your meal for $1.80. Nowadays, you’ll have to pay nearly $3 for a side portion.

While many sit-down Mexican restaurants offer chips and salsa for free, Chipotle charges you for this meal addition. Chips and salsa used to cost $1.75, making it a no-brainer to order. In the past decade, the price of this menu item has increased to $2.85.

In its analysis of fast-food chain price increases since 2014, FinanceBuzz ranked Chipotle fourth. The chain falls behind restaurants like McDonald’s but well above competitors like Panera and Chick-fil-A. Chipotle’s inflation rate of 75% is more than double the national average of 31%.
