A Viceroy Los Cabos wedding wasn’t even on my radar until this spring—and now I legit can’t stop talking about it. I got to spend a few days at the resort for the Sense of Place retreat hosted by L’Relyea Events and Wild Sol Travel, and by day two I was mentally planning and shooting entire wedding weekends there.
If you’re thinking about a destination wedding in Cabo, here’s what makes this property so special, plus suggestions for a full wedding weekend itinerary I’d love to shoot there—welcome dinner to farewell brunch.
Viceroy Los Cabos
Viceroy Los Cabos sits right where the desert meets the Sea of Cortez in San José del Cabo. The architecture is super modern and striking—all white buildings, suspended walkways, and circular reflecting pools designed by Mexican architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés.
When I looked out from my room over the pools to the ocean, my first thought was: this is giving Westworld. Turns out I wasn’t wrong—scenes from season 4 were literally filmed here. The resort’s futuristic water-centric design became the show’s “Host City,” with those dramatic white towers serving as the backdrop for Charlotte Hale’s control tower.
Translation for your wedding: your photos will look like they were taken on another (gorgeous) planet. There’s truly no shortage of jaw-dropping backdrops on this property.
Why It Works So Well for a Wedding Weekend
Here’s the thing that sets Viceroy apart from other Cabo wedding venues—the property has more than 13 distinct event spaces, and every single one feels completely different.
Beachfront, rooftop, reflecting pools, pool decks, a ballroom, restaurant buyouts—it’s all there. The resort hosts weddings of 50 to 150 guests, so your whole crew can stay on property and the weekend unfolds as a series of experiences instead of one single event.
That’s the real luxury, in my opinion. Your guests never have to get in a shuttle, and every event feels like a new location.
Where You and Your Guests Stay
Let’s talk rooms, because your family and friends will be living here all weekend (and will want to move in by the end of their stay). Each one carries the same clean, modern design as the rest of the property—white on white, warm wood, and walls of glass that pull the view right inside.
My room looked out over the resort pools and straight to the ocean, and I took approximately one million photos before I even made it to breakfast. There’s no bad room, I promise.
And if you want to go all out, the resort has private casitas and villas that are basically made for a wedding party. The five-bedroom oceanfront villa sleeps 10 with panoramic ocean views, private pools, and dedicated butler service—hello, bridal party HQ.
Picture getting ready there with your girls the morning of, or booking one of their private chef dinners for the families the night before. The villas come with perks like priority dining and spa reservations too, so your VIPs get the VIP treatment they deserve, all weekend long.
The Viceroy Los Cabos Wedding Weekend I’d Love to Shoot
Okay, here’s the fun part. After experiencing this property’s dinners, venues, and sunsets firsthand, this is the wedding weekend I’d map out and would loveee to shoot content for, based on what we got to experience through the Sense of Place Retreat.
Night One: Welcome Cocktails at Sunset
Start the weekend with welcome cocktails overlooking the water as the sun sinks into the Baja coastline and everyone settles into vacation mode. The light at golden hour bouncing off all that white architecture? Unreal.
Then—and this is non-negotiable in my dream version—have a stilt walker surprise your guests and guide them to dinner. We had one at our retreat welcome dinner and everyone’s faces were priceless.
The Welcome Dinner at Nido
Nido is the property’s Japanese omakase restaurant, and it’s hands down one of the most beautiful restaurant spaces I’ve ever been in. It sits in a giant woven “nest” structure surrounded by water, and the food is incredible.
Our retreat welcome dinner was held here and I’m still thinking about it. The florals and rentals were done by Flowers & Events Los Cabos and the entertainment—including that stilt walker and a live guitarist—came from Elite Music & Entertainment. The owner Debbie is amazing and finds the most incredible talent for weddings and events!
One more thing: ask the events team about setting your dinner tables directly in the water around Nido. I saw a photo of this set-up and my jaw dropped. It’s so good.
The Ceremony
On your wedding day, you’ve got two very different (very gorgeous) options. Exchange vows surrounded by the reflecting pools and striking white architecture, or go classic with a beach ceremony on the sand.
The reflecting pools are beautiful and unique, because you will not find that backdrop anywhere else in Cabo. But the beach option means the Sea of Cortez is your altar, so honestly you can’t lose.
Cocktail Hour + Reception at Cielomar Rooftop
After vows, head up to Cielomar Rooftop for cocktail hour and dinner with expansive ocean views. We had our second retreat dinner up here—long tables, florals for days, ocean air—and it was soo fabulous.
The space transforms to fit whatever vision you have. Think elegant all white al fresco dinner under the stars, or colorful tables popping against all that dramatic modern design.
And whatever you do, don’t skip the tequila shot dress lady greeting your guests. Another great surprise by Elite Music & Entertainment. Iconic.
The After-Party + Fireworks
Keep the party going under the Baja sky with music and dancing. The rooftop at night with the stars out is a whole vibe.
Then end the night with a fireworks show over the water. Your guests will talk about it for years—I promise you that.
The Farewell Brunch at Awacate
The next morning, gather everyone for a farewell brunch at Awacate, the resort’s colorful outdoor Mexican kitchen. It’s casual, it’s charming, and it’s exactly the energy you want the morning after a big celebration.
Then let the day flow into poolside hangs and a spa afternoon. Your guests get one more day of vacation, and you get to soak it all in as a married couple.
More Spaces to Work Into the Weekend
The dinners get the spotlight, but a few other spots on property deserve a place in your plans.
Casero serves homestyle Mexican breakfast and lunch made entirely by hand—an easy call for a relaxed rehearsal-day meal. Otro Bar covers both ends of the day with Mexican coffee in the morning and classic cocktails at night.
Wine lovers, book a sommelier-led tasting at The Wine Room for an intimate night-before gathering. And Nidito, the beach and poolside bar, is where your guests will post up between events with something frozen in hand.
Getting There + Logistics
A few practical notes for planning your Viceroy Los Cabos wedding:
- Airport: Fly into San José del Cabo (SJD). The resort is about 20 minutes from the airport—my transfer was quick and easy.
- Flights: Nonstop flights run from most major West Coast airports. Mine from SFO was about three hours.
- Guest count: The resort hosts weddings of 50–150 guests across 13+ event spaces.
- Room block: A contracted room block is required for weddings, and the couple may score a complimentary night depending on block size.
- When to go: May – June and October – November brings the dreamiest weather. Summer runs hot and humid, and late summer is rainy season in Cabo.
