St. Regis Florence Review

When we were in Florence I had the absolute pleasure of staying at the gorgeous St. Regis Florence hotel for a week. You guys, this property is amazing—truly luxury at its finest and one of my favorite hotel experiences to date.

A room at the St. Regis Florence typically goes for ~$800 a night, but St. Regis is also part of Marriott, so you can use your Marriott Bonvoy points here for a really special stay! Thanks to all my traveling with Google last year, I’m a Platinum guest (now Titanium Elite…RIP Starwood), so we were upgraded to a junior suite with butler service (YES, a freaking butler) for our stay.

The service at the property, from the bellman to the concierge, to the restaurant is already impeccable, and if you are checking in as a Titanium Elite guest, you can expect to be very well taken care of.

Upon check-in, we were given the option to view rooms that we could choose from, with one having a more full-on view of the Arno River, and the other room being a bit larger, but still with a nice view of the river. We decided to go with the larger room and appreciated being able to choose which one was most suitable for us. Technically the website says their rooms are for up to two adults, but we had three and it wasn’t a problem, and they set up a roll-away bed for us.

When we got settled into our room, we had a bottle of wine delivered from the hotel, as well as the cutest cut-out design that the butlers handmade for us and placed on our king bed as decoration. It said “Celebrate Spring in Florence,” and they decorated it with more hand-cut flowers. It was absolutely adorable and we just couldn’t get over how cute and sweet this touch was. Later on, during our stay, my parents were celebrating their anniversary, and to help them celebrate our butler created another cute message for the king bed that read, “45 years of love” with hearts around it. How sweet is that?? They also delivered a bottle of champagne for them on their anniversary. So special!

The St. Regis Florence‘s location is also perfect—just a few minutes walk from Santa Maria Novella and Ponte Vecchio. It’s within walking distance of almost all the major sights and many of the best restaurants in Florence. Many of the guest rooms have a nice river view, and our suite had a lovely Arno River view. We appreciated all of the little amenities in our room, like complimentary bottled water, an iPod dock, and best of all, our butler brought us morning coffee and pastries to our room every day.

The St. Regis is probably the most famous of all of Florence’s hotels, because of its rich and interesting history. The property is a historic palace that was originally designed by the famous Florentine architect Brunelleschi (the same guy who designed the uber-famous dome for Florence’s cathedral) in the early 1400s. The noble Giuntini family originally lived there (can you even imagine calling this place your home??), and the palace was later converted into a hotel in 1866.

Throughout Florence’s history, the hotel was a stopping point for noble families, royalty, and famous writers. Florentine aristocrats would sometimes host grand weddings there, and today you can still host your wedding at this stunning property in their Grand Ballroom…although I can’t even fathom what it would cost to host your wedding at the St. Regis Florence. ?

Another perk of being Titanium Elite is that their breakfast buffet is complimentary. And they have an amazing breakfast! The buffet included your usual scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon, breakfast potatoes, pastries, and fruit. But they also have a chef cooking up made-to-order omelets and eggs any style, and you can also order eggs benedict, or french toast from the downstairs kitchen, all included in the buffet. The french toast was freaking amazing—so crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. They also had a lovely juice bar with different smoothies and delicious juices.

And of course, I have to talk about the St. Regis’ fabulous Michelin Star restaurant, Caino by Winter Garden. The restaurant is located where the palace courtyard used to be and is now enclosed with a gorgeous stained glass roof. The antique furniture, beautiful decor and overall ambiance are very luxe and beautiful without being overly stuffy. And we felt the same way about the service—it was wonderful and on-point without being stiff or snooty. Everyone was warm, friendly, and did an amazing job. Oh, and the food was fantastic! Really inventive, creative, and beautiful dishes. We had such a lovely meal here!

We also came down to Winter Garden a few nights just to have drinks and enjoy this really incredible piano player who was there a few evenings. My dad ordered grappa one night and they gave him a whole freaking flight to taste and choose which one he got a full glass of—which of course he loved. They have a very extensive cocktail list too. Coming down here for a nightcap and sinking into one of their comfy couches while listening to live music was such a nice way to end our days!
