Either you run the day, or the day runs you. I love this quote. I think I like it so much because it’s a reminder that a lot of how your day goes (dare I say your life, even?) is dependent on you taking ownership—ownership of your attitude, your relationships, your mistakes, your triumphs…ownership of yourself. Either you own it, or you’re going to get owned. Maybe I also like this quote because it reminds me of that Beyonce song. Who run the world??
Silk asked me to share how I make healthy living and wellness a priority. So I thought to myself, how do I run the day? For me, the foundations are exercise and daily meditation. Ok maybe not daily, because sometimes I forget or I just can’t find the time to sit for 15 minutes in a quiet space…So let’s call it regular exercise and meditation. Exercise has always helped me de-stress. And a few months ago, I started meditating using the Headspace App. If you’re looking to try meditation, I highly recommend it for its approachable, guided (and short!) meditation sessions. Sometimes my to-do list just gets insane, and I start stressing out over how impossibly long it is. My breath gets shorter, and my heart starts beating faster. I can pretty much feel my cortisol levels rising! I’ve found that no matter how busy I am, a 10 – 15 minute meditation session gets everything back on the right track. Afterwards, I’m focused, calmer and, well…ready to run the day.
