Sensorio: Field of Lights Paso Robles
One of the things that drew me down to the central coast for the first time was the Sensorio Field of Lights in Paso Robles. This art installation is absolutely incredible! And while it was supposed to end in 2019, it’s been extended through June 2020, so you’ve still got time to see it!
The outdoor installation is a light show by artist Bruce Munro, and involves stemmed spheres that are placed all over a rolling hillside in Paso. The spheres look like subtle blooms that are constantly morphing colors, and it’s really magical. Honestly, the pictures don’t do it justice, and you have to experience it for yourself! It’s just very beautiful and whimsical.
The art is Munro’s largest-scale installation to date, set over a multi-acre hillside in Paso. Over 58,800 colorful spheres cover the hills, powered by solar. The Los Angeles Times called it “dazzling,” and The Guardian describes it as “art you feel, rather than art you view.”
Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance and try to time your visit so that you arrive for sunset and can see the art installation at dusk, and then of course at night. While you can’t enter the exhibit before your ticket time, once you’re in you can stay for as long as you like. You can enjoy the nightly live music, buy food and drinks like beer and wine there, and walk around and explore along the pathways to get different perspectives of the art.
