There’s no better way to enjoy Italy’s spectacular eat and drink scene than from one of the many rooftop bars in Rome. Between the food and the views of the Eternal City, it’s hard to say what’s more heavenly!

Most of Rome’s best rooftop bars are also full-service restaurants, so they’re perfect if you want to enjoy a drink or aperitivo or make a full night out of it with drinks and a three or four-course dinner.

The best part about Italy is that no one will rush you out! It’s common to spend hours sitting, eating, drinking, and just enjoying the moment. So, if you find a rooftop spot you simply adore, hang out and enjoy!

I loved my Rome trip and took lots of notes about my favorite places. So, I’ve put together this list of the best rooftop bars in Rome to help you have a dream Roman holiday too!

1. Settimo Roman Cuisine & Terrace

How does a rooftop bar in the heart of the city with panoramic views of the Forum and Rome’s skyline sound?

Settimo Roman Cuisine & Terrace sits on the 7th floor of the Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese near the Spanish Steps. It’s not only a stunningly beautiful bar but it’s also one of the best rooftop restaurants Rome has to offer, so you’re in for a real treat!

Their outdoor roof terrace is gorgeous but there’s also a chic indoor lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows that creates a magical, romantic ambiance year-round.

Enjoy a glass of Prosecco or a refreshing Roman Spritz cocktail for some afternoon lounging or to watch the sunset. Or stay for a full meal and dine on traditional Roman Carbonara pasta, pan-fried sea bass in saffron broth, or Roman veal saltimbocca.

You’ll love this place no matter who you go with, but it is quite romantic, so definitely worth checking out if you’re with someone special!

2. Rooftop Jim’s Bar

You’ll find another elegant rooftop oasis in the heart of Rome’s historic center at Rooftop Jim’s Bar at the Singer Palace Hotel.

Jim’s Bar also serves a full food menu, so you can get some spectacular views over the city’s churches, monuments, and the famous Via del Corso and Trevi Fountain, whether you go for lunch, sunset cocktails, dinner, or an after-dinner nightcap.

You’ll love their food items for sure, but if you decide to just go for the drinks, you’re also bound to love one (or more!) of their 1920’s inspired cocktails—like Roma la Luna e Tu, Un’ora Sola, and Parlami d’Amore.

With the names of the drinks alone, I’m already in love!

3. Tiziano Terrace

Just a casual 10-minute walk from the Colosseum, you’ll find the neighborhood of Monti and the lovely Tiziano Terrace. This stylish, intimate lounge bar is tucked away on the 5th floor of the renovated boutique Monti Palace Hotel.

Depending on your mood (and the weather!) you can grab a seat inside the charming floor-to-ceiling windowed lounge or head outside to the inviting open-air terrace and settle into a bar stool or one of the comfy sofas.

The indoor bar is seriously gorg! It’s a black and white swirled marble with a magnificent display of their full array of alcohol and mixers.

It’s fabulous outdoors too. Just imagine taking in the sweeping views over the Eternal City skyline while you sip on a glass of their many fine wines. If you prefer to enjoy the view with a crafted cocktail in hand, you’ll find all of the classics on the menu from a mint julep to a dirty martini.

4. Mater Terrae at Bio Hotel Raphael

What an amazing place this is!

The Bio Hotel Raphael in Rome’s Piazza Navona is a completely organic-inspired establishment—which I love—and definitely shows in its Mater Terrae gourmet restaurant and bistro bar’s menus from the vegetarian, organic cuisine to the mostly-organic wine list. 

The clean, biodynamic theme continues out into its cozy rooftop terrace with sophisticated white tablecloth tables and potted palm trees.

It’s so serene here, you’d almost forget you’re in the middle of a bustling city if not for the glorious 360-degree sweeping view you get over Rome.

Since Mater Terrae commits to serving the freshest Italian ingredients that are in season, the menu is always changing. 

Their expansive drink menu is impressive and features fun varieties of Spritz cocktails and lots of martini choices! This is my kind of place for sure!

5. Rooftop Spritzeria Monti

It’s hard to go to Italy and not become obsessed with the spritz cocktail—guilty!

This lovely Aperol, prosecco concoction is just so refreshing and…Italian! When it comes to a late afternoon drink, it just doesn’t get better than the spritz. So how amazing is it that there’s a rooftop cocktail bar all about them?

The Spritzeria Monti sits on the fifth floor of the chic Condominio Monti boutique hotel in the neighborhood of Monti. You’ll not only get amazing views of the Colosseum but some fantastic varieties of the spritz from Il Classico made with the traditional Aperol mixer to the Il Goloso made with chocolate and hazelnut flavor.

There’s always a special “spritz of the day” so feel free to come back over and over and see what else they come up with!

The Rooftop Spritzeria is a cool place to just hang out, chill, and stay bubbly!

Hours: Monday – Sunday 6pm – 1am

6. Acquaroof Terrazza Molinari @ The First Hotel

For an evening of true luxury, you’ll love the Acquaroof Terrazza Molinari on the rooftop of 5-star The First Arte Hotel. Located in the heart of the city’s shopping district, you’ll get sweeping views over Rome and its glory.

Acquaroof is known mostly for its seafood dishes and creative cocktails. So, if you’re in the mood to indulge in fresh fish tartare, caviar, or lobster pasta dishes—while taking in a stunning view—reserve a table here!

For an upscale dinner or aperitivo, their wine and the bubbly list are magnificent but feel free to start off your evening with one of their signature cocktails like the Aphrodite or Molinari Mule.

They’re open during the day and at night, so it’s up to you what kind of lighting serves you best for your Instagram pics!

7. 47 Circus Roof Garden

To watch the sun setting over some of ancient Rome’s most significant sites, settle into a table at the 47 Circus Roof Garden. 

You’ll find it on the 6th floor of the 47 Boutique Hotel right in front of the Piazza della Bocca Della Verità—that’s right, the place where you put your hand in the mouth of truth, at your own risk!

If you are brave enough to test your hand’s fate, you can settle your nerves with a Negroni Mediterraneo or Italian Fizz cocktail at the Circus Roof Garden. 

Their menu is also delightful, so be sure to grab a bite too (pun intended!)

8. Minerva Roof Garden

The Pantheon is easily one of Rome’s greatest attractions and a must-see during your visit. 

What better way to relax after some glorious sightseeing than with some yummy food and a refreshing drink on a rooftop bar, like at the nearby Minerva Roof Garden?

Minerva’s bar serves up classic Italian dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—even a lovely brunch at the restaurant on Sunday—so you’re covered no matter what time of day you want to venture out.

The bar is actually an indoor bar during the winter months and is referred to as “le Cupole” and transitions outdoors as the “Minerva Roof Garden” during the warmer summer season.

Of course, the best part of your roof garden experience is that you’ll enjoy a birds-eye view of the Pantheon plus a sweeping 360-degree view of the city.

9. La Terrazza Dei Papi

On top of the 4-star Mecenate Palace Hotel in the heart of Rome, you’ll find La Terrazza Dei Papi Garden Restaurant and Sky Bar, one of the best rooftop bars Rome rooftop bars to take in fantastic vistas of the Piazza di Santa Maria Maggiore and the Roman skyline.

If you’re in a romantic mood, enjoy your time at La Terrazza Dei Papi with a candlelit dinner at the roof garden restaurant and a bottle of one of the many fine Italian wines on their wine list.

Or, watch the sunset over the Eternal City at the Sky Bar from a cozy cocktail table for two or from one of their comfy lounge chairs. Either way, you’re in for a dolce evening!

10. Angeli Rock

Don’t get me wrong, I love a luxurious rooftop bar fit for a romantic Italian evening, but it’s nice to mix it up sometimes!

Angeli Rock is a super cool place that offers a hip, club-type, pub vibe in the heart of Rome that’s totally worth checking out.

It’s made up of four levels that include some indoor space plus a covered garden and an open-air rooftop. 

What I love about Angeli Rock is that they serve up an awesome buffet spread for aperitivo (like happy hour) and Sunday brunch with live entertainment—and you know how much I love a good brunch!

Oh, and they have some seriously yummy burgers too!

Another cool thing about this place is that it promotes itself as a destination for “smart working,” which I believe is what we Americans call coworking, and it’s not as common to see in Italy. I definitely wouldn’t mind making Angeli Rock my office space!

11. Adèle Mixology Lounge

There’s something so exquisite about the open, expansive outdoor terrace at the Adèle Mixology Lounge. 

You’ll find a gorgeous bar in the center with tables and stylish outdoor furniture where you could just relax for hours while sipping on any one of Adèle’s expert mixologist-created cocktails—like the Old Pirate or the Ginette a Roma.

The bar is on the 8th floor of the Hotel Splendide Royal, so you get some incredible views over Rome—the Villa Borghese, St. Peter’s Basilica, and Trinità dei Monti—no matter where you sit!

12. Posh Rooftop Restaurant & Lounge

Awesome drinks. Great food. Stunning views over Rome. And, an infinitely pool!

What more could you need?

Posh sits at the top of the exclusive 5-star hotel, Anantara Palazzo Naiadi, and is about as luxurious as it gets.

Enjoying some tasty Italian bar food or fresh seafood while lounging on chic poolside lounge furniture and sipping on an Aperol Spritz from a 5th-floor rooftop sounds pretty divine to me!

13. Les Etoiles Rooftop

A cozy, scenic terrace bar awaits on the rooftop on the 6th floor of the Hotel Atlante Star near St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican.

There are plenty of bubbles, fine wine, craft cocktails, and tasty bites to be had at Les Etoiles. Whether you’re in the mood for a light lunch or just an unforgettable aperitivo, you’ll find everything you need here.

For a truly magical experience, stick around for the sunset and watch as the iconic St. Peter’s Basilica lights up in the night sky!
