We just recently had a little weekend getaway to Timber Cove and it was so amazing just to get a change of scenery and be surrounded in beautiful nature!
I saw an article recently about how one upside to the pandemic is that Californians are seeing more of California right now than they have before. And I just thought that was so true!
Since we’re not flying around the country/world right now we’re looking to see what we can explore in our own backyards with a road trip.
I’ve never spent much time exploring the Sonoma Coast, even though it’s just a 2-hour drive from us. And it is so, so stunning!
Timber Cove Resort is a charming and unique hotel situated right on the cliffs of the Sonoma Coast. The dramatic views are breath taking.
We checked in Thursday evening, just in time for their complimentary wine tasting (which they host with different wineries Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4 – 6pm).
We enjoyed a few different pours and found a cozy spot by the fire pit overlooking the ocean, and I was in actual heaven.
It also happened to be whale season while we were visiting (early March), so we were able to see grey whales spouting by in the distance. If you know me, you know I love whales (I literally cried when I filmed this in Maui), so this felt like such a fun, unexpected surprise.
We were out there for hours sipping our wine, enjoying the fire, and walk around the property a bit to check out the incredible views. It was an amazing welcome during our first evening at Timber Cove!
Once the sun dropped below the horizon and it started getting really chilly we headed in for the night and ordered room service for dinner. Pretty much the perfect first day!
In case you’re thinking of planning a trip to gorgeous Timber Cove Resort, I thought I’d get into some specifics about our stay. From the rooms, to the food, to safety precautions during the pandemic.
The Rooms at Timber Cove
The property has 46 guest rooms, with several different room types. There aren’t a ton of pictures on their website so it can be a little confusing trying to figure out which type of room has the best view.
In my opinion, the best views are either from the Ocean Cove View rooms, or the full-on Ocean View rooms.
We stayed in an Ocean Cove View room and as you can see, the views are stunning! You have your own little private balcony as well and we loved having coffee out here every morning, as well as breakfast when we did in-room dining.
The regular rooms are a bit on the small side, but we didn’t mind since they’re cozy and cute. If you are looking for more space and a bathtub, one of their suites would be your best bet.
Each room has a Crosley LP record player in it, and you’ll find an extensive record library down at the lobby that you can pick and choose from.
I also loved their pour-over coffee set up in the room. One of my biggest pet peeves at hotels is when there’s a crappy coffee maker situation in the room. Not a good way to start the day.
Their pour-over coffee was so good and I loved that they had the room stocked with plenty of creamer in the fridge and different sugar choices.
Food at Timber Cove
I was soo happy to discover that the food at Timber Cove is awesome! Especially since you don’t really have many options for restaurants out there, so dining at the resort is the most convenient.
The restaurant at Timber Cove is called Coast Kitchen, and you can either dine outdoors there or order room service for in-room dining.
It’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week (which is good news because like I said, it’s really your only option for food out there!).
Coast Kitchen features fresh, seasonal fare and California cuisine. A few of our favorite dishes that I highly recommend are: smoked trout chowder, salmon wings, butternut squash pappardelle, and the ricotta cavatelli.
Timber Cove Location & Property
I’m sure you can tell by the photos and this review so far, but Timber Cove’s location is insane.
You could literally not leave the property and have an amazing weekend just soaking up the views and relaxing.
There are three miles of hiking trails right on the property, so plenty of room to explore a bit.
We loved grabbing a drink and sitting by the fire pit in the evenings, watching the sun set.
We also strolled around quite a bit, discovering cute little lounge chairs sprinkled throughout the cliffs.
Service at Timber Cove
The service at Timber Cove Resort was fantastic. Even with the resort being fully booked, any time we called down asking for something, it arrived in minutes. And when ordering room service, it always took around just 30 minutes to be delivered.
Everyone who works there is super friendly and professional and the service only added to our wonderful experience.
Safety measures during the pandemic
We felt that Timber Cove did a great job at taking safety precautions during the pandemic. Especially given how so much of your time spent on a trip there will be outdoors, it’s kind of an ideal, pandemic-safe road trip in California spot.
Masks are required indoors, and it’s easy to socially distance while spending time outside on their sprawling property. Having your own private balcony to take in those gorgeous views is perfect for safety measures too.
As far as dining goes, they have spaced out tables and limited seating at their outdoor dining area (with heaters), or you can order in for room service.
As you can tell, we had an amazing stay at Timber Cove and absolutely loved it! I’d absolutely recommend planning a trip here for a relaxing long weekend, during the pandemic and beyond. You’ll feel so refreshed and rejuvenated after spending time here in beautiful Sonoma Coast nature!
