During our time in Madrid, we did a day trip to Segovia to explore this medieval town. Please excuse the bra straps look, it was about 100 degrees on this particular day and a strapless bra was just not going to happen in that kind of heat. I like to be comfy when I’m going on day trips in foreign countries, so sue me! 😉 I found this cute romper at El Rastro (I told you the shopping was so good that within minutes I had several new outfits!) and I loved the print.
I thought I’d share a few highlights from Segovia, in case you find yourself there in the future!
- Aqueduct. If you’re going to Segovia from Madrid, it’s a short, 30 minute train ride. Once you get to the Segovia station, hop in a cab and ask them to take you to the aqueduct. It was built in 1 B.C. and it arches over the entrance to Segovia’s old town.
- Cathedral. Stroll around old town Segovia and make your way towards the main plaza, where the beautiful Cathedral sits.
- Limon y Menta. Right across from the Cathedral is an adorable patisserie and sweets shop, called Limon y Menta. If you like marzipan, try the ponche segoviano, which is their specialty.
- Lunch/dinner. Our Lonely Planet guidebook recommended Restaurante El Fogon Sefardi and Casa Duque. We weren’t there (or hungry) during the hours they were open, so we missed out.
- Castle. Continue along to the Segovia Castle, which was Walt Disney’s inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s castle at Disneyland. Check the hours beforehand so you can get in and explore the castle before it closes. We watched the sunset from there and it was beautiful!
