Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We rounded out our Thanksgiving holiday weekend with a trip to California Great America’s WinterFest Sunday evening with friends. I hadn’t been to Great America in over a decade—Omied took me there on one of our first dates—and we had such a fun night! I shot these outfit photos in the afternoon while it was still light out (it gets dark so early these days!), before we drove down to Santa Clara for a festive evening. It’s been getting a little chilly in the evenings, so I opted for a big cozy sweater, boots, and I made sure to pack mittens and a holiday scarf for Great America.
WinterFest was the perfect way to bid adieu to Turkey Day and get us all in the holiday spirit! The park was magically transformed into a winder wonderland, with over 7 million LED lights lighting up Santa’s Workshop, an ice skating rink, and holiday shows. We watched the tree lighting ceremony, listened to Christmas carolers, drank hot chocolate, and rode a few of the thriller rides like Gold Striker and Flight Deck in between all of the merriment. If you love indulging in a sweet treat at theme parks like I do, and you love the holidays, you’ll be happy to know that at WinterFest, eggnog funnel cakes are totally a thing, as are peppermint churros.
WinterFest would be so fun as a family outing with kiddos, but even as adults (who are still big kids at heart ;)), we had a great time. Pro tip: You might be able to ride Flight Deck over and over again with very little wait time, if you’re into that sort of thing. A lot of the park-goers are with little ones, so crazy drops and upside down thrills probably aren’t on their list of things to do that night. But it was definitely on ours!
Single day tickets are available for just $24.99 and admission to WinterFest is included with a 2016 or 2017 Gold or Platinum Pass.
